In FLorida You always have to buy dirt

Saturday morning are not like they used to be. I remember sitting in front of the T.V. to eat cereal and watch cartoons. They didn't run cartoons on any other day. Oh, well, the hands of time point in one direction. We did eat cereal. Cocoa Pebbles. They are gluten free and my children will eat them. That is a win win.

After breakfast we started to get ready for the day. Getting grubbies on and slathering on the sun block; filling masson jars with ice, water, and lime-ade.

My mother brought over a large pot filled with volunteer tomatoes.

After spray-painting the trellises and making cages from a roll of wire a friend gave us; we started planting. I think we had room for nine.

One of the strangest things for me is the concept of buying dirt. In Florida you have to constantly buy dirt; even if you are composting. I am hoping to get a real compost plan going soon. As you have probably already noticed I do not have much in the way of a budget to work with. I have been looking for bins I can use to build composter for cheap or free and neither of those things have happened yet.

Everything in this plot was scavenged or gifted except the paint. It took some planning and replanning but in the end I like it. It is functional and asthetically pleasing.

Between and in front of each tomato cage I sowed a bell pepper seed or three. I hope they like it here and are fruitful.

All along the trellesis I planted the Mexican Cucumbers.

Two banana trees were planted. I will talk more about this side of the yard later this week.

Here is a better picture of my pennyroyal growing in front of the portch.
